Glass:Shattered
A Deconstruction of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie
Conceived and Directed by Michael Durkin
with The Renegade Company
“The scene is a memory and therefore non-realistic. Memory takes a lot of poetic license. It omits some details, others are exaggerated, according to the emotional values of the articles it touches, for memory is seated predominantly in the heart.” How much power do memories hold? Can they be altered and recreated? Can they be destructive? With the current digital climate it seems like it is easier and easier to recreate, reconstruct, and revision memories. Renegade uses the Williams’ iconic work as a point of reference and brings their de-constructivist approach to this American classic. Infused by the landscape of David Lynch’s films where the boundaries between reality and the surreal and constantly being blurred. We, along with the characters are caught in a continual loop. Renegade utilizes their sensory approach to create an immersive dream-like experience for the audience.
